[It was a long run, so once he's dropped off all the supplies he brought for the general populace and found Pell again, he doesn't look very good: exposed skin too flushed and stiff to the touch, whole body shivering, clothes covered in melting snow, lips pale and chapped and just on this side of blue. He's still got a couple of things in his hands, which he gives to Pell before speaking: a toque of his own, a pair of thick gloves with the fingers still intact, and a scarf.]
I promised. [The shiver is even in his voice when he speaks.]
[Pell's eyes widen when he sees Cole, who looks half frozen. Feels it, too, because his hands go straight to Cole's face, thumb brushing over his icy lips. Geez, Cole. You said you knew your limit.
He smiles at the warm things offered to him, but it doesn't win out over the worry. ] You did, and thank you. But you were out too long. [ He stuffs the gloves and hat in his coat pockets and drapes the scarf around his neck, then swirls the blanket off his shoulders and around Cole's instead, ushering him back to what he now thinks of as their "spot" in the corner. ]
I'm fine. [The attention's more than a bit embarrassing, but he endures it, the gentle hands against his face and mouth warming him from within with unexpected strength. He endures being swaddled and duck-walked back into the corner, actually quite relieved for the weight of the blanket, beneath which he strips off his outer layers so that he's not trying to warm himself in cold, sopping wet clothes. Nothing to be done about his pants, but the jacket and hoodie are discarded beside him, as are his scarf, toque and gloves.]
[ You should have thought about being embarrassed by fussing before you turned yourself into a popsicle, Cole.
Pell comes back with a second blanket and a coffee for Cole, which is passed to him with an eye for how blue his fingers are. They look alright to Pell but he's no expert. He just sits on the opposite side of the wet outerwear and pulls the two blankets around them both, snuggling back up against his friend's side. Cole is cold and he shivers at the contact. Still, a warm hand finds its way to check Cole's ears, and a slim arm winds around his waist to keep them close. ]
[Coffee. Perfect. The hot chocolate is luxurious, but he could use the perk-up of caffeine when he's battling deep exhaustion from that time spent in the cold. Both hands clutched tight around the mug, he takes a sip, not outwardly reacting but very aware of all those careful touches and the way Pell keeps checking him over. It's a relief when they can just settle into leaning against each other again.]
It wasn't that bad, and we needed the supplies. I'll warm up quick. [The fingers on his ear make him wince a bit.] Careful. You feel like you're on fire.
[ Pell doesn't want to hurt him, though, so he drops his hand again and just cuddles. He really is very warm, and Cole can feel it now that his overlayers are off. Every now and then he'll shiver just a bit, until his heat fills the space and starts warming Cole up. ]
[Sure enough, Cole's shivering starts to die down between the contact and the coffee, and soon they're both still and quiet. Even with the murmur of people all around them, Pell's voice startles him just a little because everything feels so peaceful.
He glances sidelong at Pell, wanting to deflect more thanks but not sure if he should this time.]
No problem. Thanks for - this.
[Taking care of him. He knows it must be nostalgic for both of them, but somehow they make it work in this new context.]
[ On instinct, Pell leans up and kisses Cole's cheek just above the stubble. He realizes he's being too touchy, and tells himself it's just the situation -- Cole was gone too long, it's natural that he would worry and be glad when he got back safe. And he needs to warm up. Obviously.
He rests his chin on Cole's shoulder, facing him, breath warm on Cole's neck. He smells like cloves and chocolate. ]
I got a little worried when you stopped answering.
[The brush of Pell's lips against his cool skin makes him turn his head right around, look at him head-on. He's not alarmed or upset - he looks startled, yes, but also deeply vulnerable.
Why don't these sorts of things disturb him with Pell, when Petre makes him so twitchy? Because they're not explicitly sexual? Because they both have others to whom they've devoted their time here as much as the time before? Simply because Pell is so small and soft, so feminine, that he doesn't see the lines as sharply?
Maybe a bit of everything. But that was quite a gesture, and it takes him a moment to turn away again and relax.]
Just had a lot of bags to carry. I didn't mean to.
[ He murmurs that it's fine, that Cole's fine, and bumps his forehead into the side of Cole's face. It lets him close his eyes, but behind them all he sees is that vulnerable look Cole just gave him. ]
...I'm sorry. I'm getting too familiar for you, aren't I?
[ He doesn't even know how to process this right not but if Cassie's there he shouldn't ask about her, that's rude. What... is he supposed to do? Wait? Right. Wait. He can wait until tomorrow. He'll take off from work if he has to. ]
[action - blizzard]
I promised. [The shiver is even in his voice when he speaks.]

I taught her that. Not like I can forget. I'm happy, Pell, but - shit, this place just got so complicated.
