It will be Maketh's birthday on the first of December. Emily is assisting me in throwing her a celebration; she mentioned cake was an expected part of that.
[ Following this post, and his brief text conversation with Emily, Pell goes up the stairs to the doorway of the room he shares with Cal, who is smoking in the window. It's tempting to go over and claim the cigarette from his chesna, to curl up in his arms and forget everything that's going on, and those who have left. But instead he calls out. ]
[The interruption is unexpected, but not unpleasant, and Cal extinguishes the cigarette, with a curious glance, but his face grows more serious when he sees Pell's expression, and he moves toward him, reaching out a hand.]
[ Pell hesitates, not wanting to acknowledge what's upsetting him. Not wanting to admit that he's lost someone else important, or explain why these people are important. He has Cal now, he shouldn't be so broken up about others, and yet he is. He still can't think of Peter and Newt without getting upset, for heaven's sake, and satisfying his deal with Fear is easier than ever.
[Cal pulls himself closer, wrapping his arms around Pell and pressing his lips against his forehead. He might not understand Pell's attachments to humans, but at least he can understand that they hurt when they're broken.]
[ Pell doesn't see humans as that different from them, not really. They like to play at being above humanity, but they're not, and he gave up on trying to suffocate his own emotions the night he and Cal said I love you. People all just people in the end, human or hara or otherwise, and he cares for them just the same. Chris a bit more than most. He leans against Cal, closing his eyes briefly, accepting the comfort. ]
He used to make me a certain drink, but I think I can make it myself.
[ He coughs to clear his voice. He doesn't know where to start. ]
I've not really been around much. Been struggling with a few things. I just wanted to tell you before I go ahead with my plan.
So... I'm going to see Confusion. See if she can help me. I'm not sure I'll be the same man when I come back and because of that, I just wanted to let you know how much you mean to me, Pell.
[ Will pauses. He doesn't know what else to say. ]
I hope she doesn't mess this up and that I still remember you. Come find me when it's over if you can.
[ Pell is at the clinic when he gets the message, and is... confused. Appropriately, though he doesn't fully understand that yet. He calls back right away, but there's no response, so when his shift is over he goes by Will's apartment. Knocks until the neighbors are poking their heads out and he gives up, unlocking the door telekinetically and finding only Winston there, alone.
For awhile, he waits. In fact, he's there all night -- calling every now and then, getting very worried about what the message meant. It felt almost like a goodbye, until it didn't. And Will's name is still on the network, so Pell waits. In the morning he decides to take Winston for a walk and the dog leads him to Confusion's temple, but no one's there. They wander awhile longer, but Pell can tell it's just wandering. The dog's lost the track.
'Come find me when it's over if you can.' What did that mean? Where did he go? What was the plan he mentioned?
Pell winds up taking Winston home with him, for the duration. If Will comes back -- no, when he comes back, his name is still there -- he'll be looking for his dog first. So Pell cares for him, and takes him on long searching walks to places he probably shouldn't go alone, and periodically calls the phone that Will just isn't fucking picking up. He looks, he really does. Until the Null attack, that is. At which point he's too busy and it's too dangerous, and he's convinced that Will's name on the list is just some kind of glitch.
I don't care if you're pissed at me, or if these gods are helping keep you sane. You need a damn good roon. So, me or Swift? Pick one, or both and get over here.
Who are you to decide what I need, Seel? Maybe you just don't feel yourself unless you're giving orders, but there's no reason you should start with me. I don't roon people I don't trust.
[She hadn't stopped checking. Just in case, every time she woke up, she'd look to see if the phones were working. And then one time, finally, it works. Her heart skips a beat and she almost expects it to turn off again, but she's able to pull up the list of everyone again.
She looks worried and a little dirtier than she usually lets herself get, but she flicks through to the first name she can focus on.]
Pell? Are you okay?
Edited (I LOOKED AT A CALENDAR my bad) 2018-09-03 07:37 (UTC)
[ Pell glances up when Kate enters, but the thunk of the bottle gets a quirked eyebrow. Does she think this job is really that much of a nightmare that he'd need to get drunk after a single leadership action-- oh. Wait. It's probably not the job, specifically.
He doesn't know whether to smile because it turned out alright in the end, or fuss more that others saw it and have decided not to offer their own help.
Let's go with the smile, since he fixed it. ]
You heard me fall flat on my face with Carlisle, did you? I do worry that may have turned people off, but our meeting went very well.
( There are days like that. Or maybe she just turns to drink that easily. But most importantly, there's a pedantic priest who can drive anyone to drink.
(He's a great friend, but their relationship has been years of arguing and missteps.) )
Think most do. ( A shrug, and she ever so easily slides onto the desk, using it as a seat and the chair as a footrest, cracking open the bottle. )
Got glasses? ( Or a cup? A mug? Something they can drink out of like civilised people? )
Hello. I wanted to thank you for your kind words and support. Please be assured that I guard the Clinic because I want to, not because I have to. In fact, I plan to guard the Clinic and you, should you need such a thing, regularly.
Thank you as well, then, Mariane. Arrivals day would be a good day to be certain to be there, if you plan to make us a regular station. Otherwise playing it by ear by what's going on in the city would be fine and appreciated.
I refer to arrival days as the first of the 'month' as much as we have them here. Let me show you the clinic schedule, the projected arrival day is on there.
[ A file is sent to her phone -- even if she isn't familiar with the setup, she'll be able to figure out how many days until the next one. ]
